Do you want to make your office a better and happier place to work – these tips are going to help you do just that. Take a look below and enjoy.
1. Bring a light to your cubicle, literally
Whether working from a desk in an open office or a tiny cubicle, you can still bring in an attractive table or desk lamp to help add more illumination to the same. Some of these lamps provide a more natural light when compared to the harsh overhead fluorescent bulbs used in most office setups. These lamps also allow you to regulate light intensity to fit your preferences
Under-cabinet lighting, floor lamp, and even a flameless candle can come in handy in tiny office cubicles. Make sure the flameless candles aren’t scented before bringing them over.
2. Add a mirror or two
Hanging a mirror anywhere in the cubicle (preferably opposite a natural light source) creates an illusion of bigger and brighter office space. Mirrors also reflect light naturally, hence an excellent addition to your office.
Several considerations such as size and weight should, however, be made before bringing in just any mirror. The mirror needn’t be too big for the office space, neither should it be too heavy for the office/cube walls. Mirrors with a metallic or bright frame are recommended for office setups.
3. Add some color
Adding bits of bright colors to the office can also help make your office brighter than it already is. White and many other bright colors come in handy in this, and so are small pops of the same. If repainting the office walls is out of the equation, you could then try the tips outlined below.
First, consider adding a few brightly colored paintings on the office walls. Throw in a brightly colored pillow or blanket to add a similar effect. Family picture portraits in metallic frames will not only look good on your desk but also reflect more light. Bring in a brightly-colored vase of flowers, or even colored postcards if working on limited space. Hanging white curtains over dark walls can also help attract more light.
Water can also add an element of lightness to the office space and additionally the sound is a nice relaxing one. You can add this to the office with a water feature. There are numerous companies such as Luxe Water Walls that offer these items.
Only adopt one or two of the hacks mentioned above to make your office or cubicle lighter. Some of these hacks are meant to reflect more light into the room, thus creating an illusion of a larger, well-lit office. While doing this may help make the office brighter and livelier, decluttering can bring out a similar effect.
Decluttering To Lighten Your Office
1. Clear surface clutter
Start by emptying trash and recycle bins, file any unfiled papers, clear the table of unnecessary files, paperwork, etc., and the bookshelves. Removing the extra ‘weight’ from the office helps create more space and even allows more light in. You may also need to reorganize the office space, which will not only make it have a more attractive look and feel, but also boost your productivity.
2. Take care of the electronic clutter
Most electronic gadgets will have wires and cables lying everywhere. Take some time to organize these cables accordingly based on their use, need, and safety.
Next, delete any unused files from the computer, delete downloads, clear browsing history, cache, and cookies, then empty the trash bin. Most of these unused files only bog your computer down making it less responsive and even slower.
Get rid of any electronic gadgets you no longer need in the office. This includes extra speakers, charging cords, broken scanners and printers, and anything else gathering dust in the precious space. Having all these removed from the office should allow more light, improve your productivity, and most importantly, improve airflow.
3. Take care of E-mail clutter
Although email clutter may not take up any of your physical space, sorting through them can be stressing. Organizing your inbox, drafts, and sent mail, and folders can save you lots of valuable time when looking for a specific file or email. Many people spend hours looking for that ONE email their bosses need urgently. With hundreds and probably thousands of emails coming in per day, getting your inbox organized can save you lots of time, trouble, and possibly your job. It also reduces unnecessary pressure.
A well organized, brighter, and lighter workplace holds the key to happiness while at work. Your co-workers will also learn to respect your cubicle for as long as it stays organized and well kept. In addition to all this, a lighter office means increased efficiency, better time management, and productivity. It also means a less-stressed mind.
