Happiness Doesn’t Cost Much At All

There was a time when keeping employees happy mean one thing and one thing only; breaking the bank. That was because employee happiness was more closely linked to salary and bonuses. But Millennials now making up the majority of the workforce, happiness has taken on a slightly different facade. Not only that, but the emphasis on happiness has become far greater too.

That’s why it is so important that you, the employer, gets creative with keeping your employees happy. We’re not talking about buying candyfloss that has been whittled in such a way that it spells out your employee’s names (although this would totally go a long way towards making them happy), we just mean you need to get creative with your appreciation.

Let Them Be More Flexible

Way too many employers have not latched onto flexihours and it is biting them in the backside without them even realizing. We live in a day and age where we can be just as effective working from anywhere, but we aren’t all as effective as one another at working set hours. Some people are more on the ball first thing in the morning and others get their brains into gear later in the day. So why not capitalize on that, while making your employees that much happier with where they work. Let senior staff work from home once a week and let all other staff work flexible hours. It’s in your best interests.

We Are All Survivors Of Our Environment

You don’t have to go full on Google when it comes to improving the office environment in which your staff work (God knows that would break the bank!), you just have to make small tweaks. It could be something as small as your computers, which have become old and slow, in which case either replace them or seek out a company like ICRFQ to source those hard to find components that will take them up a notch. However, it could equally be that you embrace the bean bag lifestyle all Millennials want to be a part of, and have a pool table for lunch time use, or a chill out area. These are rewards that count for way more than bonuses because these are rewards that make their work life better, and that’s what people want these days.

Time For Independence Day

Yeah, it may sound weird to you, but employees really don’t like it when the boss is constantly looking over their shoulder, or telling them exactly how to do the work or is nagging them or anything like that. No. Employees latch onto freedom and see it as a major benefit of their job because they have been trusted with the job they were employed to do. Yeah, your employees have a lot of worth, so give them this freedom. Let them come up with strategies and let them run with them. You will find that they put way more effort into something where the buck stops with them than if they were to do a task where they are being micromanaged. If you don’t want to go this far, then just give them a timeframe in which to work independently before you start getting on their back. Trust us; freedom is undervalued by employers.
