Leaving a Strong Impression: The Office

Sometimes quickly cleaning up and getting a new coffee mug isn’t enough to leave a good long lasting impression. When business partners of high importance have to come over for a meeting, even more important than handling the business at hand, is their comfort and first impressions. It is tough to strike a balance between refined and authoritative while also being somewhat approachable and in the end still human. Having a suitable office to give off just the right image is an excellent way of accomplishing just that.

The corporate

Looking corporate is important enough, sleek, modern shelves or storage and an even sleeker desk will be sure to give a strong first impression. Modern and minimal is a look a lot of people tend to go for today, but a lot of office furnishing just end up looking like one in a million. Everyone’s seen the slightly better than Ikea-tier desk and computer cables wired through the hole at the back of it, what people haven’t often seen, is a dash of originality. Something as simple as having a dual monitor workspace with one of them set up vertically is sure to turn heads. Having a vertical display is greatly beneficial for working with text as it naturally adheres to the shape of a sheet of paper. Don’t be scared to take design risks, having a few outstanding elements in an office will immensely help emphasize the actual office-type look by having a bit of contrast, even it is something as banal as coloured storage boxes. It is perfectly ok to traverse further than the usual wooden colours and monotone shades of grey, if anything it will leave something to remember you by.

The human

With all the typical office ideas sorted, think about something much bigger and more far out. Anyone reading the news here for a few months would have already heard about decorating the office with some art pieces, so let’s skip over that part. While the previous points definitely make a difference, chances are quite a few people have colourful storage boxes, however not everyone has a compact bar somewhere in the office. You read that right, a small bar displaying some a few bottles of liquor are sure to show that while you mean business in the office, you also have a life outside of it which you are not afraid to put on display. Accompany that with some stylish barstools and bar products and you have yourself a memorable and lively part of the office while still upholding an air of refinement. Maybe even try going for a fancy mechanical keyboard to compliment your desk. More and more people are switching to mechanical keyboards and replacing their generic rubber-dome office keyboards. Not only is the typing experience much more pleasant and comes with a variety of key-switch options to suit your typing needs, but some of them come with rather striking designs. Of course, a LED-filled glow in the dark gaming keyboard does not suit an office environment, however there are quite a few which have a much classier design while still retaining their functionality and satisfying tactile clickiness. Pair one with some stylish keycaps and your keyboard is bound to stand out from the crowd. In the end, isn’t that what this is all about?
